In 2019, Telford & Wrekin Council declared a climate emergency. It is now working, along with partners, to go carbon neutral by 2030 – and to reduce single-use plastic across the council by 2023!

The use of face masks has become mandatory in certain settings and we encourage you to choose reusable face coverings that can be washed and re-worn, instead of single-use disposable options.

Images of popular UK beauty spots devastated by plastic pollution have become the norm and since lockdown has been lifted there has been a visible increase in plastic pollution due to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) littering of face masks and gloves.  Keep Britain Tidy returned with the Great British September Clean (11-27 September 2020) which also coincided with Recycle Week (21-27 September) and the Council used this as an opportunity to encourage residents to reduce their use of single-use plastics by switching to reusables.

We’d love to see your selfies of your reusable face mask on social media – remember to tag in Telford & Wrekin Council and use the hashtag #choosetoreuse
